Description
Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels aging in the ricks.
Unlike typical rickhouses for aging spirits, Woodford Reserve rickhouses are heated, and a sensor placed on the bottom barrels. When the temperature inside the bourbon barrels reaches 60 degrees, the heat is turned on until the internal temperature of the barrel reaches 85 degrees. Heating makes the spirits cycle in and out of the barrel wood faster, adding more flavor to the bourbon. Woodford Reserve is aged on average for 7.3 years, with the angel's share being about 50%.
