Description
Perched along the edge of scenic Glade Creek is the Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock State Park. This grist mill is a working monument to over five hundred mills that once thrived throughout West Virginia.
A “new” mill, Glade Creek Grist Mill, was constructed in 1976 using parts and pieces of several dilapidated mills from around the state. It is a recreation of a mill that once stood nearby (in the parking lot) known as Cooper’s Mill. The building dating from 1890, was once the Stoney Creek Grist Mill in Pocahontas County. The overshot water wheel was salvaged from the Spring Run Grist Mill in Grant County after that mill was lost to fire. Several other parts came from Roaring Creek Grist Mill near Seneca Rocks.
