Artist's Description

Autumn on the Sugar Creek at the Narrows Covered Bridge in Turkey Run State Park, Parke County, Indiana.

The Narrows Covered Bridge, built in 1882, spans the Sugar Creek and is the third bridge constructed in this location. This single-span Burr Arch Truss covered bridge was built by Joseph A. Britton, who constructed most of the covered bridges in Parke County, the Narrows Covered Bridge, is acclaimed as the first bridge of Britton's illustrious covered bridge career.

With 31 covered bridges, Parke County is known as the "Covered Bridge Capitol of the World" for having more covered bridges than any other county in the United States.

The Narrows Covered Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
