Split Rock Lighthouse aglow with light at the SS Edmund Fitzgerald Beacon Lighting Ceremony.
While the lighthouse was decommissioned in 1969, the lantern is still in operational condition and is lit each year on November 10th, to honor the twenty-nine men that lost their lives in Lake Superior’s icy water when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank on this night in 1975. This image was captured on the 43rd anniversary of the sinking.
Split Rock Lighthouse is located on Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior.
