Description
The Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the FREE 72-ounce steak, in Amarillo, Texas!
That’s 4.5 pounds of beef! Your meal is free as long as you eat the steak and all the fixings within an hour. The entire meal consists of the steak, a bread roll with butter, a baked potato, a shrimp cocktail, and a salad. Don’t worry; they start a timer on the wall when they deliver your meal. So, you’ll know when your hour is up. You lose, and it’s $72.
I was so disappointed that no one was up for the challenge while I was there. My husband laughed at me when I suggested that he try and replied, “Give me a week instead of an hour, and I might get it all down!”
A Route 66 icon, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, opened on East Amarillo Boulevard, the previous alignment of Route 66. After I-40, the new Route 66 alignment, was completed, they moved to the interstate in 1970. The Big Texan cowboy sign moved with them; it dates to 1960.
