Description
Purely the luck of being in the right place at the right time, while driving the North Carolina section of the Blue Ridge Parkway, we pulled off at the Bluff Mountain Overlook to wait out a passing rainstorm. As the storm gave way to sprinkles and the sun came back out, a magnificent double rainbow appeared.
Flowering elderberry shrubs frame the smoky view down into Basin Cove in this stormy Blue Ridge Mountain view.
The Blue Ridge Parkway has the designation as an All-American Road, the highest classification in the National Scenic Byway system. It is 469 miles long. The Parkway begins at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, winds its way through North Carolina terminating at the Cherokee entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Along the way, it provides spectacular mountain and valley vistas, quiet pastoral scenes, sparkling waterfalls, and colorful flower and foliage displays.
At an elevation of 3334 feet, Bluff Mountain Overlook is at milepost 243.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
