Artist's Description

A view of Cades Cove Methodist Church from Rich Mountain Road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.

The Methodists were not as numerous as Baptists in Cades Cove but there were enough to establish a church by the 1820s. The first church was a log building; it was later replaced with the one seen here in 1902. J.D. McCampbell, a blacksmith and carpenter, built this church in 115 days for $115. He also served as the minister for many years.
