Description
Just one of a large flock of Cattle Egret grazing in a Mississippi field along the Natchez Trace.
Cattle Egret are more compact and chunkier than other white herons. In breeding plumage they have patches of buff color feathers. I love the way they throw their heads forward when they walk! You’ll find them more often in fields than streams, often at the feet of grazing cattle or even riding on their backs picking at ticks.
