This is a little different view of Chimney Rock than you typically see. It is the backside or what the pioneers on the Oregon Trail would have seen as they glance over their shoulder for one last look as they passed on by.
Located on the Western Trails Scenic Byway just outside of Bayard, Nebraska, Chimney Rock National Historic Site was one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks for pioneers on the Oregon Trail.
Chimney Rock is a natural geologic formation. It is a remnant of the erosion of the bluffs at the edge of the North Platte River Valley. Composed of layers of volcanic ash and Brule clay, a slender spire rises 325 feet from a conical base to tower 480 feet above the valley. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1956.

As the 8th photographer in 4 generations of my family, I don't remember a time when photography was not part of my life.
