Description
The view of the Rio Grande and the Sandia Mountains from the Coronado Historic Site in Bernalillo, New Mexico, not far from Albuquerque.
Located here are the ruins of the Kuaua Pueblo, the northernmost pueblo of the twelve Tiwa villages. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was on his expedition searching for the Seven Cities of Gold in 1540 when he entered the Rio Grande valley near here. Instead of finding treasure, he discovered villages of native people that had been farming the land for thousands of years. Coronado called them Los Indios de Los Pueblos or Pueblo Indians. Coronado and his men spent the next two years living with the Tiwas during their expedition.
The view is magnificent; I can see why the Tiwas chose this location for their home!
