Artist's Description

The public road down into Waipio Valley ends at Wailoa Stream but the tour company has permission to cross and go farther into private land. In this image, we paused in the middle of crossing the Wailoa Stream so I could capture this image of the all the beautiful rainforest vines upriver.

Waipio Valley is located along the Hamakua Coast on the northeast shore of the Big Island of Hawaii, this valley is the largest and most southern of the seven valleys on the windward side of the Kohala Mountains. Waipio valley is a mile wide at the coastline and almost six miles deep. On both sides of the valley the cliffs reach almost 2000 feet in height!

About Susan Rissi Tregoning

Susan Rissi Tregoning

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
