Description
Donut Drive-In in St Louis, Missouri, is said to be the best donut shop on Route 66.
My husband considers himself a donut connoisseur, and he says they rank right up at the top; he’s reserving final judgment until he’s tried them all, but it may require a few repeat visits to narrow down his top five. LOL
The donut shop has been in this tiny building since it opened in 1953, and its iconic neon sign is an original too. When the Schwartz family purchased the business in 1996, they didn’t change anything. The recipes stayed the same, and all the donuts are still entirely made by hand. It’s such a thrill to see this iconic neon sign lit, the sign’s restoration was priority number one after they purchased the business.
The only thing that varies is the color of the sprinkles depending on the season; that’s hockey or baseball season, of course! St Louis has some devoted fans, and they have come to expect blue and yellow sprinkles for the St Louis Blues hockey team and red and white sprinkles for the Cardinals baseball team.
