Description
The Dutton Lainson Victory Building is located in Hastings, Nebraska. This building was designed to commemorate Americas victory in World War I and is one of very few privately financed Victory Buildings in the nation. Designed by a local Hastings architect C.W. Way, the exterior is Sullivanesque in design, mimicking Louis Sullivans architectural mix of plain geometry and undisguised massing punctuated with elaborate pockets of stone and terracotta as seen on the cornices of the building. While this style of architecture was very popular in other areas of the United States it is very unusual to Nebraska. The Dutton Lainson Victory Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
