Description
The Lincoln Railroad Station is one of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania’s iconic sites.
During the Civil War, this train station served many roles. It was where Union soldiers boarded the train when they were headed out to combat and where Abraham Lincoln arrived on November 19, 1863, the night before he delivered the Gettysburg Address at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery dedication.
Even before the Battle of Gettysburg began, it was established as the first army field hospital serving as a hospital during the battle and a hub for outgoing wounded soldiers and incoming resources and supplies after the war ended.
Restored in 2009, the Gettysburg Train Station is now a museum and part of the Gettysburg Battlefield Historic District. Circa 1858, Western Maryland Railroad initially built the Victorian Italianate train station.
