Artist's Description

Early morning at the Glensheen Estate looking out from the driveway over the frozen Tischer Creek and the stone arch bridge.

Glensheen, the historic Congdon Estate, is located on the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. This 27,000 square foot, 39 room mansion was built by Chester and Clara Congdon between 1905 and 1908.

The Congdon family opened up iron mining in the Northland’s Iron Range and are known for setting aside land for public use, such as the North Shore Scenic Highway and Congdon Park.

The estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
