Description
The Guernsey State Park Museum is the park's most impressive log and stone building. The Civilian Conservation Corps built this massive structure during the Depression with handcrafted materials. The roof is framed with heavy hand-hewn timbers and covered with cedar shakes. The floors are flagstone quarried at Thermopolis, Wyoming. The front door is of Florida's “pecky” cypress. The structure took about 6100 man-hours to build, costing $3200 in the mid-1930s.
The museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
