Description
A view down the Harpers Ferry, West Virginia railroad tracks through the Harpers Ferry Tunnel.
While not visible from this angle because of the foliage, the tracks cross the CSX railway bridge at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers.
The rail tunnel was originally built in 1894 to eliminate a sharp curve on the tracks along the Potomac River. In the 1930s, the western end of the tunnel was widened during the construction of the second bridge to broaden the curve across the river even more.
