Artist's Description

The Heron Pond swamp part of the Cache River State Natural Area in the Shawnee National Forest.

It is known as the northernmost southern swamp and is a National Natural Landmark.

Amazingly beautiful, the swamp is full of Bald Cypress and Tupelo trees and is home to all kinds of wildlife.

The Cache River State Natural Area is located in Belknap, Illinois at the southern tip of the state.
