Artist's Description

A Green St. Charles Streetcar travels through an oak tree shaded section of the Garden District. St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana, is the home of the St. Charles Streetcar Line. These green streetcars are one of New Orleans’ most visually iconic links to the past. Registered as National Historic Landmarks, New Orleans first started using streetcars in 1835, more than 180 years ago! Making this the oldest continuously run route for such transit in the world. The 900 series streetcars were first put into service in the 1920s. The Southern live oak trees, plentiful in the historic Garden District, were planted during the early twentieth century and stretch more than five miles before terminating near the river at South Carrollton Avenue. I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change.
