Artist's Description

Believe it or not, this sandy trail winding its way up to the windmill in the distance was a far better road than we were driving on when I stopped to take this picture. I would have loved to have venture farther in but wasn’t sure if getting off the main road would take me into private land.

I had always dreamed of getting into the Nebraska Sandhills instead of just viewing them from a distance. Considering that 95% of the Nebraska Sandhills are privately owned, that isn’t easy to accomplish without trespassing. So I was thrilled when we discovered a public 4WD-only road at the far western end of the Nebraska National Forest. Unfortunately, we only drove it for a very short distance until we got to a spot where the road was almost completely washed out. Since that was more abuse than I wanted to put my Armada through, we turned around.

I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change. My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
