Kilauea Point Lighthouse sits on a narrow lava peninsula called Kilauea Point. It is located on the north shore of the island of Kauai in Hawaii.
Classical Revival in architectural style, it was constructed out of reinforced concrete. The slightly tapering cylindrical tower is 52 feet high and was commissioned in 1913.
In 1985, Kilauea Point and the surrounding area was designated as a National Wildlife Refuge. The ocean cliffs and tall grassy slopes of a dormant volcano provide a protective breeding ground for many Hawaiian seabirds. It is one of the few locations where you can observe the Red-footed booby, Laysan albatross, Wedge-tailed shearwater among other Kauai wildlife in their natural habitat. The coastal front also provides a safe haven for the endangered Hawaiian monk seal, Green sea turtle, and Humpback whale.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
