The Middle Loup River is a shallow river with a sandy bottom that runs through private ranchland in the Nebraska Sandhills. It is necessary to go through an Outfitter for river access. However, this lazy winding river is perfect for floating. While you can rent a kayak, canoe, or even an inner tube at many outfitters, tanking is an experience unique to Nebraska.
Consider floating down the Middle Loup River in a livestock water tank. These 7-9 foot in diameter tanks are practically unsinkable making them perfect for people that prefer to stay dry while enjoying floating through luscious green hills with dramatic blue skies along this slow-moving river.
