Description
This beautiful mansion, the centerpiece of My Old Kentucky Home State Park, was owned in 1795 by John Rowan, a United States Senator. Senator Rowan named his farm, Federal Hill.
When the farm became known for its association with the ballad “My Old Kentucky Home, Good Night” by Stephen Foster, the farm was purchased by the Commonwealth of Kentucky because of its significance to the state. It was dedicated as a historic site and renamed “My Old Kentucky Home” on July 4, 1923. Foster’s song was named the state song of Kentucky in 1928.
In 1992, the home was featured on a postage stamp, and in 2001 it was one of the symbols selected for the reverse side of the Kentucky state quarter.
My Old Kentucky Home is located in Bardstown, Kentucky.
