Artist's Description

Constructed in 1984, the Klokkenspel in Pella, Iowa is two stories tall with a lovely little courtyard through the arches. Eight four-foot-tall mechanical figures perform in the large bay window on the second story to a 147 bell carillon music. The Klokkenspel plays four times a day, at 11, 3, 5, and 9. First on the street side and a second time in the courtyard.

The Klokkenspel is a memorial to H. Stuart Kuyper, the president of the Rolscreen Company the maker of Pella Windows and Doors from 1977 to 1980. It was his dream for the city to have the Klokkenspel.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
