The Pfeifer Seed Company in Arcola, Illinois, opened in 1910.
George L. Pfeifer was an innovator in the hybrid seed corn industry. His seed company was one of the largest distributors of seed corn in Central Illinois and the largest distributor of broom corn seed in the United States. Broom corn's long tasseled heads would be tied together to make brooms.
Notice the phone number 1 on the building; the Pfeiffer Seed Company was the first customer of the Arcola Phone Company.
