A brown pelican post sitting near sunset at the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Brown Pelicans are large gray-brown birds with yellow heads and white necks. They live along southern and western sea coasts and are rarely seen inland. On the Pacific Coast, Brown Pelican adults have red skin on their throats in the breeding season. On the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, Brown Pelicans are slightly smaller and their throat skin is greenish black.
