Description
A hike through the beautiful rhododendron tunnels at Price Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are a couple of different places you can access the 2.3-mile lake trail, but the rhododendron tunnels are near the Price Lake Overlook.
Rhododendron season in the Blue Ridge Mountains is typically from June through early July, depending on the elevation and type of rhododendron. I was at the lake in early July, and the azalea looked to be in peak bloom here. They were amazing!
Julian Price owned the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company, which was the largest corporation in North Carolina in the first part of the twentieth century. He purchased the 4,200 acres, planning to make it into a retreat for his employees. When he died unexpectedly in an automobile accident, the land was donated, and the Julian Price Memorial Park was created in his memory. The Price Lake Overlook is located at milepost #296.7 on the North Carolina section of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
