Description
The historic Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific train depot in Marseilles, Illinois, was built in 1917. The depot was in operation as a train station until 1974. It is now the Seattle Sutton Marseilles Museum.
The Marseilles Depot was a locally significant transportation hub moving people and goods along the Rock Island and LaSalle Lines, which became the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad. The railroad parallels the Illinois and Michigan Canal from Chicago to Peru and ended passenger service along the canal due to its success.
Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, the depot was designed in the American Craftsman architectural style.
