Description
The Gothic Revival St Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the mother church of the Pittsburgh Diocese.
Originally in a different location, St. Paul's parish was established in 1833 and chosen to be the Pittsburgh Dioceses Cathedral when the Diocese was created in 1843. However, that first church burned in 1851 and was replaced with a much larger one by 1855.
A new location was selected for the new Cathedral built in 1906, which resides in Pittsburgh's Oakland Neighborhood. The architecture of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany inspired it.
The Cathedral is part of the Schenley Farms Historic District. It is a Pittsburgh Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
