Description
It is nearing sunset at Iron Mine Hollow Overlook.
This scenic overlook offers a beautiful long-range view into the valley below. At an elevation of 2372, it is high enough that things are just starting to turn green up here while spring is already in full bloom in the lower elevations.
This area was once mined for iron ore. By 1892, the mines began shutting down when richer mines were discovered in Minnesota.
Located at Milepost 96.2 on the northern section of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, the parkway.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long. It starts on the northern end at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and ends in the south at Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the Cherokee, North Carolina side.
