Artist's Description

Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese, and Ducks share the wetlands at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico.

Something startled most of the Snow Geese and Ducks, causing them to take flight briefly, the Sandhill Cranes look around like, “what is wrong with you!”

I can’t help but compare the behaviors of the birds here at Bosque del Apache to how they act in Nebraska during the Spring. While the birds will sometimes share a field in Nebraska, they usually do not intermingle like I have seen them do in New Mexico. The Sandhill Cranes also seem more relaxed and, for the most part, do not have their red crowns pulled back.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
