Description
Completed in 1919, this Tudor-Revival mansion was designed for the Branch family by architect John Russell Pope. The home is one of the earliest examples of this style of architecture in the state and the only residence designed by Pope that the interior has survived intact.
Pope also designed the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the National Archives, and the West Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
Although the Branch House is located within Richmond, Virginia’s Monument Avenue Historic District, it is the only home in the district individually listed on the Virginia Register and the National Register of Historic Places. It is eligible for designation as a National Historic Landmark.
Today the Branch House is home to the Branch Museum of Architecture and Design.
