Description
This is the genkan or entryway in a traditional Japanese house. It is where street shoes are removed and house shoes are put on before you step up to enter the house.
This home belonged to the Uchida Family and is now part of the Kona Coffee Living History Farm. Built in 1925, three generations of the family lived here and worked the coffee farm. It was turned into a museum sometime after 1994 when the last of the family moved out. Located in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.
