Description
George Palmer built this tiny 14x16 one room, squared log and brick cabin it 1867. At the time, even with its dirt floors, it would have been considered a pretty elaborate home for a pioneer family of seven. By 1880, the Palmers had added 5 more children to their their family and added a lean-to kitchen as a solution for more space. They continued to live here until around 1895.
The exact date is not known but sometime prior to the 1900s, Lawrence and Ida Epard acquired the farm and live in it for 40 more years.
In 1950, this cabin was restored and moved 14 miles to the Homestead National Monument in Beatrice, Nebraska as an example of typical homestead family living.
