The sun is still fairly high in the sky as the sun’s ray’s break through the heavy cloud cover. This isn’t as close to sunset as you would think but on the Big Island an extra voggy day can bring interesting colors at sunset.
This image was captured at the tide pools of Honaunau Bay on the grounds of the Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park also known as The Place of Refuge.
This area is also the location of Royal Grounds called the ahupua'a of Hōnaunau. It was the location of original seat of the chiefdom of Kona and the ancestral home of the Kamehameha dynasty. With beauty like this, it is easy to see why it was the favored residence of the Hawaiian chief.
It is located on the South Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.
