The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), located in a remote area 50 miles west of Socorro, New Mexico, is one of the world's largest and most sensitive radio telescopes. There are 27 working radio telescopes in the VLA plus one spare for maintenance purposes. Each the size of a house, they are moved on double railroad tracks.
