Description
The little red Mecca one-room schoolhouse with the Mecca Covered Bridge in the background.
In 1966, the Mecca Historical Society purchased the Wabash Township School Number 3, moving it to the west side of the Mecca Covered Bridge in Parke County, Indiana. Initially constructed in 1874, the one-room schoolhouse stood vacant for decades before finally being renovated in 2021. It is now being used for special events throughout the year.
Parke County, with 31 covered bridges, is known as the “Covered Bridge Capitol of America.” This is because more covered bridges are here than in any other county in the USA.
