The Cardinal flower is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows up to 4 foot tall and is found in wet places such as streambanks, and swamps. The flowers all display the characteristic lip petal near the opening of the flower and are usually vibrant red. They can be found from summer through fall. Lovelia cardinalis is primarily pollinated by the ruby-throated hummingbird.
