Predawn at the Glensheen Mansion on a cold winter morning.
Glensheen, the historic Congdon Estate, is located on the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. This 27,000 square foot, 39 room mansion was built by Chester and Clara Congdon between 1905 and 1908. It is designed in the Jacobean architectural tradition, as inspired by the Beaux Art styles of the time.
The Congdon family opened up iron mining in the Northland’s Iron Range and are known for setting aside land for public use, such as the North Shore Scenic Highway and Congdon Park.
The estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
