Artist's Description
The scenic view of the historic Harpers Ferry Train Station and railroad tracks in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, with the Harpers Ferry Tunnel in the distance.
The Harpers Ferry Train Station is a wooden framed Victorian-style building dating from 1896. Designed by architect E. Francis Baldwin, it was built as part of a new and safer approach for the B&O Railroad line into Harpers Ferry. In 1931, the station was moved about 100 yards to its present site to realign it with the new bridge; it now sits on the buried foundations of the original Harpers Ferry armory buildings.
In 2007, the Harpers Ferry Train Station received a $2.2 million renovation, which also included the restoration of the station's tower. Still operational, the station is currently served by Amtrak’s Capitol Limited and also the MARC commuter service.
The Harpers Ferry Train Station is part of the Harpers Ferry Historic District.

About Susan Rissi Tregoning

By the time I was five years old, I was standing on a stool in the darkroom, helping my dad develop pictures. It was my job to transfer the photos from the hypo to the water bath. I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change. My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
