Artist's Description

The James R. Barker arriving in Duluth, Minnesota for fuel.

James R. Barker is an American bulk carrier that operates on the upper four Great Lakes. Built in 1976 at 1000’ x 105’ with a 27’ draft, she was the third vessel of her size to be built. The James R. Barker along with thirteen other vessels are restricted to the upper lakes because they are too large to travel through the Welland Canal that connects Lake Erie to the lowest lake, Lake Ontario. She is owned and operated by the Interlake Shipping Company.
