Don't let the fancy name confuse you... a beach sheet is just a large beach towel.

The 47 feet tall spectacular Double Column in the foreground is the centerpiece of Giant’s Hall. It is the tallest column in the caverns. This massive formation was created when a stalactite and a stalagmite grew together. They did not precisely meet but are joined side by side. Located at 164 feet below the surface, this is the deepest part of Luray Caverns. Giant’s Hall is 10 stories tall!
Luray Caverns is the largest cave in the eastern United States. Located in the Shenandoah Valley town of Luray, Virginia, I consider it a must-see if you are visiting Shenandoah National Park. The cave was discovered in 1878 by five local men whose attention had been attracted by a protruding limestone outcropping located near a sinkhole that had cool air rising from it. Luray Caverns was designated as a Natural Landmark in 1974.

I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change. My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
