I love finding these old gems as “lawn art” in rural areas of the Midwest! I discovered this antique McCormick-Deering tractor along the Wisconsin portion of the Lake Superior Scenic Byway in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
McCormick-Deering was never a “company” itself, but the trademark name of a line of tractors and farm machinery manufactured by the International Harvester Co. In 1902, the five largest companies: The McCormick, Deering and Milwaukee Harvester companies, Piano Mfg. Co., and Warder, Bushnell & Glessner (Champion harvesters) merged to become the mighty International Harvester Co. For many years after the merger, IHC sold two parallel lines of equipment. In 1912, the US government filed an antitrust action against IHC but it wasn’t until 1918, that it was finally decreed that IHC could not sell their product under two different names. I'm a travel photographer that enjoys photographing United States architecture, nature, and transportation. As the 8th photographer in 4 generations of my family, I don't remember a time when photography was not part of my life. By the time I was five years old, I was standing on a stool in the darkroom, helping my dad develop pictures. It was my job to transfer the photos from the hypo to the water bath. I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change.
