Artist's Description

A bald Cypress tree draped with Spanish moss beautifully frames the antebellum mansion, Melrose, seen in the distance.

Melrose is considered one of the best-preserved and most significant historic sites in the entire South. This 1800’s Greek Revival styled mansion located in Natchez, Mississippi, is part of the Natchez National Historical Park. The home is furnished for the period just before the Civil War and is around 95% intact due to the fact the furnishings were sold with the house each time it changed ownership.

Melrose was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974.
