Artist's Description

This hauntingly beautiful vine-covered church circa 1850, is the Rodney Baptist Church AKA Mt. Zion Baptist Church No. 1. Stylistically, this white-framed church is transitional Greek Revival – Gothic Revival. Built during the architecture transition from Greek Revival to Gothic Revival, the church combines elements from both styles. Located close to the Mississippi River, repeated floods have caused the structure to weaken significantly; sadly, this building is considered severally threatened and will not last much longer. Notice the flood marks on the church. When I visited, it was drying out from its most recent flooding. It is located in the ghost town of Rodney, Mississippi, and not too far off of the Natchez Trace Parkway.Special Features:Showcasing the South 4.19.19ABC Group - V is for Vacant - 6.14.21Copyright 2019 Susan Rissi Tregoning

I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change. My...
