Description
It’s a snowy day at the Horton Covered Bridge in Amnicon Fall State Park, South Range, Wisconsin. The Amnicon Falls is starting to get icy but it has not frozen over yet. I was the only person in the park enjoying this beautiful winter wonderland.
Horton Covered Bridge was built around 1899. It is 55 foot long and is used to cross the lower falls. Originally a highway bridge that crossed the Amnicon River not far from the park, it was moved to the park in 1930. The cover was in 1939.
The bowstring bridge holds historical significance to the area. Charles Horton, a local man from La Crosse, Wisconsin, holds the original patents for the bridge design. There are only five surviving Horton bridges in the area.
