Description
The Dwight Depot in Dwight, Illinois, has a rich history, having been utilized by the Chicago and Alton Railroad from 1891 to 1971. Following this, Amtrak took over the station from 1986 to 2016 before relocating to a new station nearby. Today, the building serves the Dwight Historical Society and Chamber of Commerce as a museum and community center.
The station's distinctive Richardson Romanesque-style architecture was constructed in 1891 using Joliet stone for the foundation and Indiana Bedford blue stone for the walls, which are primarily composed of fossil shells. Its historical significance is further recognized by its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
