Description
The breathtaking view of the Guernsey Reservoir can be seen from the elevated position atop the Castle picnic shelter.
The Castle picnic shelter at Guernsey State Park is the park's grandest and most intricate picnic pavilion, so named for its fortress-like appearance. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s for $6,000 as a component of FDR's New Deal amidst the Depression era, this log and sandstone structure exemplifies the remarkable craftsmanship of that period.
Nestled within Wyoming's rugged and picturesque Guernsey State Park, it spans 6,000 acres around Guernsey Reservoir and offers breathtaking views. The Park is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and provides some of the finest examples of CCC craftsmanship in the Rocky Mountains.
Guernsey State Park is near Guernsey, Wyoming, and has many historic Oregon Trail sites nearby.
