Description
No road trip down Route 66 is complete without visiting Winslow, Arizona, just to stand on the corner.
If your response is "Huh?" these lyrics from the 1972 Eagles hit song "Take It Easy" might ring a bell…
"Well, I'm a standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
And such a fine sight to see.
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me.
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose, and we may win
Though we will never be here again
So open up, I'm climbin' in
So take it easy."
There's not much to do at the intersection of Route 66 and North Kinsley Avenue at "Standin' on the Corner Park," except for, well, stand on the corner. Around 100,000 people show up each year to do just that. Still, it was a lot of fun to take a moment, remember simpler times, and take it easy.
Bet you can't visit without the song popping into your head!
