Description
Sugar Creek, under the West Union Covered Bridge, is a popular floating spot in summer.
At 315 feet, the double-span West Union Bridge is the longest covered bridge remaining in Parke County. The bridge is considered the nation’s best-preserved example of a later Burr Arch Truss design. J.J. Daniels, one of the nation’s most prolific covered bridge builders, built it in 1876 to replace a previous bridge he had built in this location that was destroyed by a flood.
